ARTISTS STATEMENT 2026

 

Joan Mitchell said “I carry my landscape with me”. For me it is “I carry my architecture with me”.
 
Having spent years as an architect I graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins London.

 

I bring these 2 disciplines together in my Practice as a Painter.

 

My work has distilled around the idea of 'fold' in the canvas becoming integral to the painting; playing with the dilemma this presents for the tradition of the vertical canvas on the wall. The fold embeds both horizontal and vertical into the canvas. I call this for now Rotational Space and is the 'cousin' of the work of Frankenthaler and Pollock in that the work embodies other spatial planes in the creative process.
 
My preoccupation with Space and Colour in painting continues.
